The Westgate Inn - Bath
The Westgate Inn - Westgate Street - Bath
History
The Westgate pub itself has a long recorded history dating back to 1611, where it was one of the original coaching inns in Bath
Previously called The Angel Hotel and more recently the Rat & Parrot
Hauntings -
There is a resident ghost named Alice, although further details of the activity and why and how the ghost came by that name os not known..
Is it residual or intelligent?
If anyone has had any experience of 'Alice' or has worked at the pub and can fill in the blanks, that would be brilliant.
Thoughts/ Research -
Social Media Research-
I have posted this on my Facebook page and group and so far a few people who worked there have said they didn't experience anything.
One lady who lived there for 4 years, in the early 90's experienced nothing at all.
So now I am wondering if the pub is on the ghost walk route and whether 'Alice' the resident ghost is a story which came about in more recent years.
Maybe the suggestion of a ghost makes people feel uncomfortable and think they are seeing/ hearing things..
Historical Research-
On checking the Bath Directories, the Rose family were registered there from 1810-1867 (approx) with Sarah, Robert and Thomas Whittaker Rose being first registered, then from 1870-1891 (approx) Henry Leaker and also an Emmie Heath in 1905.
So possibly a prolific female character there could be Sarah Rose or Emmie Heath as former landladies?
So far nothing standing out as an 'event' as such in the newspaper archives, apart from a small kitchen fire in 1936.
No fatalities, murders or any dark deeds.
