Focus on Rivers Street - Bath
Focus on - Rivers Street - Bath
I have been running my Bath and Somerset paranormal and history groups for a few years now and one place that pops up regularly in posts about haunted locations is Rivers Street in Bath.
This road in the centre of Bath is filled with Georgian Town houses built from 1752.
Rivers Street was developed by John Wood the Younger on three parcels of land
Back in 1836 & 1852, stone coffins were found on nearby Russell Street while workmen were digging to lay drains, they found skeletons and artifacts inside them.
Hauntings-
I have seen reports of a few of the flats having various types of activity in them.
I was contacted by two people who had lived there are different times and with differing accounts of their individual hauntings.
One had seen the spirit of a female that used to almost indicate towards the window of a ground floor flat.
The resident picked up on a traumatic death with this woman.
Research
This is where it gets interesting.
After looking through the newspaper archives I came across a report from 1925 of a woman who in a drug induced state had thrown herself out of a 4th story window, her landlady tried to help her but she fell impaling herself on the railings below at ground floor level and sadly subsequently died.
This was at the same address as the resident had seen the female spirit hanging around at the window, who was looking out at the railings where she had met her untimely death....
Thoughts -
This has got to be one of the most compelling case studies so far as the research tied in with what the witness sensed about the woman and her actions.
I would love to hear from more residents of Rivers Street, current and old that may have had an experience, or even seen the same woman.
This is ongoing and I will add any new information on sighting or new haunted locations within Rivers Street as they are uncovered.
