Ghost Animals of Somerset..
There are many reports of sightings of ghostly animals all over Somerset, both of the four and two legged kind..
Some of the more random include, a tabby cat at King Johns Hunting Lodge, Axbridge, a butterfly at Bath's Theatre Royal, an ape and dog at Hotwells House, Bristol, an Exmoor Pit pony, a dog and dove at Washbridge, an ape at Brassknocker Hill, Bath, William Beckford's dog, Tiny at Beckford's Tower, Lansdown, Bath and bears! at The Shrubbery, Weston Super Mare..
Perhaps the most common animal spirits sightings are of horses, with or without the classic headless rider, my personal theory is that they maybe seemed to be headless, as there isn't enough energy to fully form the apparition, not necessarily because they lost their head..
These equine apparitions include, a spectral horse on the A39 at Cannington, a phantom clip clop of hooves and a headless rider that manifests at Merlan Corner - Churchstanton, a galloping horse at East Chinnock, a grey misty horse that rises, galloping out of the road at Sea, near Illminster, horses and riders in pursuit at Blackmore Copse near Crewkerne, more galloping horses at Porlock Hill and Battlefields House, Lansdown, Bath.
There are also many tales of ghost dogs or Black Shucks..
A Black Shuck according to English Folklore is a ghostly black dog which roams the countryside, originating from East Anglia, but now more widely reported all over the country..
Somerset Black Shucks or ghost dog sightings have seen reported at - Winsford Hill (devil dog with glowing eyes) , Beckington. Combwich, Selworthy, St Audries, Wambarrows, Hembury Fort and Cleeve Hill, Watchet, ( both packs of hounds) and the Witch Tree, Stogursey.
The Hounds of Langford Budville is another story of two hounds who run around on New Years Eve with red eyes searching for their master, accompanied with the sound of hooves and shouting.
A helpful dog at Weacombe on the Quantocks that helps lost travellers and a white dog which chased a car at Wick St Lawrence.
As well as the 'Beast' of Banwell... and a Shapeshifter in Bristol.. and a Wolverine at St Audries.. and albino fire breathing hounds at Wellington.
If anyone has any other reports of spirit animal sightings, please let me know.
