Poltergeists of Peasedown
Poltergeists of Peasedown.
History-
Just South West of Bath is the village of Peasedown St John
Archaeological and documentary evidence shows that the site has been occupied from at least the early Iron Age.
There is good evidence of Roman and Saxon villages in the area, the Saxon settlements resulting in several entries in the Domesday Book of 1086.
The medieval settlement of Eckweek was excavated in 1989 and now lies under the Peasedown Bypass and Underknoll Road.
Peasedown used to be a coal mining village, and after the last of the mines shut in the 1970s it became a dormitory village for Bath.
Hauntings-
During 1988 & 1989 there seemed to be a brief outbreak of poltergeist activity.
But what was strange about this is that is was reported in several houses at the same time, another possible significant link is that they were all council houses.
It was standard poltergeist activity including pictures flying off the walls, small objects being knocked off and also disappearing and reappearing in a different spot.
This poltergeist activity then spread to the pub, The Waggon & Horses, which in itself has ghost stories of a man that sits in a chair at the bar and around the stairs of the cellar area.
One of the family members that lived there woke up to feel their face being stroked by an unseen hand, empty crates were thrown around the beer cellar and the pressures altered on the beer pumps.
It is not known when it stopped or why and whether it has ever occurred again?
